We're looking for two volunteers who can commit to a 3-4 month period, assisting in the creation of self-watering planters as required. This entails crafting 10-20 planters each month during a three-hour session on one Saturday per month, with the work divided between the two volunteers working as a team.
-
Once trained, volunteers will have the capability to construct the planters on Wednesday and/or Saturday mornings, typically completing them in a single three-hour session.
- Volunteers should be comfortable using battery-operated power tools (we will provide gloves and eye protection). Thought the barrels are not heavy they are bulky and require volunteers to have some upper strength to move them.
- The building process takes place outdoors, adjacent to the garden, and volunteers can expect to get dirty. While the barrels are clean, they may occasionally contain remnants of food-grade syrup, and during the cutting process, pieces of plastic may adhere to their clothing. The plastic is not sharp but can be sticky, especially if exposed to syrup.
-
We strongly encourage volunteers to take regular breaks and prioritize self-care, considering the physical demands that gardening entails.
- Our self-watering planters are in high demand, and they are sold on a sliding scale ($25-$45), each including 20 gallons of potting soil.
