Court Ordered/Community Service Emergency Food Distribution (GGRC)

Description

This opportunity is ONLY for individuals seeking Court Ordered Community Service hours. CSV hours will only be counted if signed up on a Court Ordered Community Service opportunity. Do not sign up for any other opportunity that is not Court Ordered. You will only be able to sign up for this opportunity once you have been given the approval from Volunteer Services. Please follow the steps below:

Charges: Please note, we DO NOT accept volunteers who have been charged with violent offenses such as but not limited to: assault, domestic violence, sexual harassment, harassment, sexual abuse, armed robbery, disorderly conduct, or aggravated assault. 

Dress code: We ask that you don't wear tank tops, crop tops, short shorts or sandals/flip flops when volunteering--all shirts must have sleeves and must cover armpits, abdomen, chest and no politically affiliated Clothing.  All shoes must be closed-toe-and-heel shoes. Please be aware that failure to follow the dress code may result in dismissal from volunteer activity for the day.

Steps to sign up for Court Ordered Community Service:

  1. Please make an account at https://volunteer.communityfoodbank.org
  2. Please email us a picture, or a scan, of your court documents to cfbcommunityservice@communityfoodbank.org. This picture/these pictures should include:
    • Full name
    • Charge description
    • Court docket #
    • # of hours to be completed

If you are not able to e-mail us a picture of your court documents please come to the Community Food Bank (3003 S. Country Club) during business hours (Tues-Fri 8:30am-1pm) and we can help you at reception.

  1. Once you have made an account, we will send you a confirmation email that you have been qualified and that you can now sign up for the Court Ordered Opportunity.

Please give us a 24-hour notice if you need to cancel your shift or once you have finished your CSV hours in order to get your letter of completion.  You can give us a call 520-622-0525 or send us an e-mail at cfbcommunityservice@communityfoodbank.org

Check in:  Meet in the lobby, make yourself a name tag, and sign in on one of our Volunteer Kiosk. Reception will hand you a slip that will need signatures once you have completed your shift to keep track of your hours. You will be guided to the production area once you are all checked-in. Please bring your own work gloves if you would like to use them during your shift!    

Warehouse Safety Rules: Please follow these safety rules to have a great volunteer experience! 

  • No usage of cell phones, radios, iPods or headphones in the warehouse
  • Please follow the dress code above (closed-toe shoes, shirt with sleeves) 
  • No eating, drinking, smoking or chewing gum in the warehouse 
  • Warehouse tasks may require you to stand for long periods of time, lift approximately 25 pounds.

 Distribution volunteers may assist with the following tasks:

  • Taking client tickets
  • Loading client grocery carts with emergency bags, senior boxes, and other food items
  • Help keep the flow of clients steady and appropriately distanced
  • Ensure that product is stocked on the back-end (opening product, keeping area clean of cardboard and trash)
  • Assisting in taking carts to client’s cars and returning the carts
  • Receiving carts from clients & returning them inside the building

For a safe and fulfilling volunteer experience, volunteers must complete the Good Manufacturing Practices training found under one’s account qualifications. One should feel comfortable working inside and standing for a majority of the shift in variable temperatures, and be able to perform physical work (more below). Basic Spanish is helpful, though by no means necessary!


Safety Guidelines: 

All volunteers must be aware of and uphold the safety expectations below in order to volunteer. Note: Lockers are available; however, you will need to bring your own locks. we highly suggest leaving your personal items in your vehicle or at home.

  • Volunteers who feel sick or who have come in close contact with a sick person should NOT volunteer.
  • Regularly wash/sanitize your hands before, during, and after your shift (including breaks) (hand sanitizer will be available for use)
  • Volunteers agree that they feel safe and are able to perform essential tasks, including...
    • Standing for the majority of the shift length
    • General ability to lift 25-50 lbs from the ground or over the head
    • Ability to bend, kneel, push, pull, and walk
  • No use of cell phones, iPods, headphones, etc. while in the warehouse
  • For food safety, do not chew gum or smoke while volunteering
  • No food or glass is permitted in the warehouse distribution area
  • Only water is allowed in the warehouse; there is a specific location for water bottles to be stored during the shift

NOTE that, on occasion, distribution times may extend past the allotted time or end early. If it extends, due to a large volume of clients, we ask that you stay to assist with the completion of all clients in distribution. Thank you for your consideration and flexibility!


 Parking, Entering, and Checking-In (Tuesday - Friday):

  • Both gates will be open upon arrival for volunteers and staff to park. Please park in the outskirts of the main lot if possible. If it looks full, please park in the south lot, and be vigilant for truck traffic. (see below)
  • As able, please reserve the central parking lot for clients
  • Please do not come into the building before 7:30 AM unless instructed to 
  • After parking, make your way to the lobby (see below) to check in at a computer kiosk
